On May 2, 2019, U.S. Steel proposed an efficiency upgrade involving two projects: (1) a consolidation of certain aspects of operations at the Edgar Thomson Plant and (2) the construction of a co-generation plant at the Clairton facility.  It does not intend to modify the coke oven batteries at the Clairton facility.  At an estimated cost of $1 billion, the project anticipates a return on investment of 15+%.
